ADAM NELSON – Owner/Head Trainer
-CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, CF-L1
-CrossFit Olympic Weightlifting Certified Trainer
-CrossFit Endurance Certified Trainer
-CrossFit Kids Certified Trainer
Adam Nelson was introduced to CrossFit in early 2007 while in the US Navy and has been doing it ever since. Amongst his many accomplishments in the Navy was the role of Command Fitness Leader, where he designed, implemented and led the fitness program for over 300 US Navy Sailors. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Adam moved from San Diego, CA back to his home state of Maine to open a CrossFit facility.
“I noticed that Portland only offered the big box, globo style gyms and there really was no real training facility for those who are truly interested in improving their fitness. Those gyms are only concerned with getting members through their doors. Once through their doors, members are left to fend for themselves amongst a sea of weights and useless machines. Many try to duplicate workouts that they see others doing or find in “fitness” magazines. This results in poor technique with often little to nothing in the way of results. Here at CrossFit Casco Bay we focus on the individual and pride ourselves in helping the client achieve the results they want. All we ask when you walk through our doors is you bring the heart and determination, we’ll take care of the rest!” Adam.nelson@crossfitcascobay.com
Adam also holds a bachelors degree in Advertising from the University of Maine.
NEIL BOORJIAN – Gym Manager/ Assistant Head Trainer
-CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, CF-L1
-CPR/ AED/ First Aid, Red Cross
After playing competitive sports in high school and college, I needed to fill a void and my typical training routine at a globo gym was just not cutting it. In 2008 I ruptured my ACL, after grueling months of rehabilitation Adam introduced me to CrossFit. In the beginning a lot of my workouts were modified due to the fact that my body was still healing from surgery. As the weeks went by I could see a huge difference in flexibility, endurance and strength. CrossFit has allowed me to achieve fitness results I never thought possible. “If it can work for me, it can work for you.” Neil.boorjian@crossfitcascobay.com
Neil also holds a bachelors degree in Advertising from the University of Maine.
THOMAS HOLMES- Trainer
-CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, CF-L1
-CrossFit Barbell Certified Trainer
-CrossFit Gymnastics Certified Trainer
-CrossFit Nutrition Certified Trainer
I was introduced to CrossFit in the summer of 2007 through a friend who was in the Air Force. I’d been doing traditional body-building techniques, which were good and certainly made me stronger, but I was not really fit. My bench was decent, but I had no dead lift or squat and I could not do more than a few pull ups. My training had made me look a certain way, but hadn’t prepared me for anything. When I first read about CrossFit’s definition of fitness, I became hooked on it. It just made sense. “Get good at everything, don’t specialize in anything, and you’ll be truly fit.” This wasn’t about what I looked like, though it certainly changed my body composition. This was about being able to do things I couldn’t do before. While many do CrossFit to look great, the fundamental difference between what most people do in their gyms and CrossFit is that the former is usually about making my body look better, while the latter is about actually making it better.
Tommy also holds a bachelors degree in Communications from Norwich University.
SAM BURRELL-Trainer
-CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, CF-L1
-CPR/First Aid American Red Cross
After four years of 6:00am lifts, games and long practices, my collegiate lacrosse career came to an end for Springfield College. After graduation I spent a summer not doing much of anything and getting back on track proved harder than I thought. A few of my friends and I talked ourselves into trying CrossFit; after a week of pain, sweat and DNF’s, I was hooked.
The deeper I got into CrossFit, the harder it was to train and watch people come in and out of the YMCA and get little or no results. It was then that I realized I wanted to be a CrossFit coach and truly help people make gains in their own fitness and lives.
I am very fortunate to have found CFCB and have the opportunity to become a part of the training staff. I try to live by the motto of “leave your ego at the door” as I continue to evolve as a CrossFitter, and coach.
Sam holds a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education, with minors in Health Education and Athletic Coaching from Springfield College.

GREG PANORA- Power Lifting Coach
After a distinguished career in professional power lifting, I decide to come to Maine to live and teach Westside Barbell’s power lifting program. I’m a 6 year veteran of the legendary Westside Barbell in Columbus, OH and a member of their “Elite” Club. I am a 5 time world champion power lifter in the 242lbs weight class. While at Westside I coached professional athletes from all different sports, including NFL, dancing and figure skating. I have also coached D-1 collegiate athletes including football, wrestling and track and field as well as high school athletes from various sports. My true passion is working with children, especially in the fitness area. As a licensed child counselor and Autism Therapist I have practiced and developed strength training programs to keep children stimulated and active. CrossFit Casco Bay has been a second home to me and they have taken me in with open arms. These guys are in excellent shape and make quick adjustments. “I have never seen athletes pick up these movements this quick”!
